Honor LSV opened it’s doors in mid-2023 as a USA-made, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Golf Cart and LSV manufacturer headquartered in Berkeley County South Carolina. The company founded by principal Brian Plaisance designs, manufactures, and builds golf carts and low-speed vehicles (LSV) in it’s sprawling Summerville, SC facility. Manufacturing is currently online inside the company’s 130,000 sq-ft building located at 636 Omni Industrial Blvd. One of the company’s main goals is to bring quality manufacturing at competitive prices back to the United States in a largely Chinese-dominated industry.

An LSV is what’s known as a Low Speed Vehicle. These golf carts are street legal when properly certified and registered, and are able to be driven legally on roads with speed limits of 35mph or below. Many people have been jumping on the golf cart LSV bandwagon for local travels and mobility. People take their LSV’s to the store, the beach, the pool, to friend’s homes, and all around their neighborhoods and nearby surroundings. A lot of people prefer this to jumping in the car, and kids love riding in them.

When asked about how he came to start the new company, Honor LSV founder Brian Plaisance shared the following. “After my second stint at retirement, I purchased a nice LSV for my family to celebrate the sale of my second company. My son wrecked it. Being a machinist, fabricator, and welder I didn’t think it would be too difficult to fix. What I found was that I paid nearly $30,000 for a very poorly made, 100% Chinese product. After researching the industry, I found most vehicles are coming in from China close to 100% assembled already. I thought that surely an American company can make a better product for less money. Enter Honor LSV.”

Though retired, Plaisance found new purpose and was incredibly happy to be launching his third startup company, his second in Berkeley County. He believed there was never a more critical time to be working to bring manufacturing back to the US. In his mind as well as many others, South Carolina continues to provide the workers and other important resources needed for a startup to grow successfully. He was also thrilled to try and help move the local economy even further forward in it’s growth.

Honor was funded by Plaisance with the help of First Capital Bank who had worked with him and believed in both him and the proposed product. South Carolina’s Coordinating Council for Economic Development also awarded a $100,000 Set-Aside Grant to Berkeley County to help cover costs of building improvements. The Coordinating Council further approved job development credits for the Honor LSV project. The $34.2 million investment will wind up creating close to 70 new jobs in it’s initial phases.

In addition to American workers, Honor LSV uses mostly American-sourced metals, plastics, and components to build its golf carts and LSV’s. According to Plaisance, “Honor does more work in-house than any other golf cart company in the US. We manufacture using multiple lasers, and we have a welding robot for some sub-assemblies. We have the largest powder coat facility in the state of SC right here in-house, and we’re the only all-aluminum powder-coated cart on the market.”

For these reasons, Honor is able to do full production from manufacturing through final finishing in-house at its Berkeley County South Carolina facility. The company can also provide it’s in-house powder coating services to outside businesses in its state-of-the-art, 9,000 sq-ft automated powder coat line.

All in all, multiple leaders in both the private sector and the government including the Governor, Secretary of Commerce, Berkeley County Supervisor, Honor owner Brian Plaisance, local business leaders, and residents receiving jobs were extremely happy to be involved in helping bring this project online.
