At the invitation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, led by the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan, Elvira Azimova, is taking part in a milestone UN event of this year – a high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Kazakhstan delegation’s busy programme includes participation in two days of the UN meetings, as well as other events and bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Forum.

On the first day, Elvira Azimova presented to the UN Kazakhstan’s national commitments to human rights, based on the Head of State’s reforms in this area. Our country has focused on expanding the mechanisms of legal protection of children, consistent implementation of the concept of the “Listening State”, investment in the promotion of digitalisation for more effective implementation of human rights, strengthening the proactive role of civil society, as well as integration of the human rights indicators of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights into national plans.

In addition, the Head of the Kazakhstan delegation spoke at an event of human rights NGOs of the Republic of Kazakhstan entitled “Kazakhstan’s commitments to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: implementation and reality”, which was held in the margins of the Forum. She noted the work done by the State to implement international obligations in the field of human rights protection, the core of which has always been the commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Chairperson of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan briefed international experts on the implementation of three packages of measures proposed by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as well as the decree on the human rights action plan adopted by him on the eve of the International Day for the Protection of Human Rights on 8 December.

Also, on the first day, the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court, Elvira Azimova, met with the Head of the EU Delegation, the Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore, and the Head of the Rule of Law Division of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Simon Walker.
