The Legality of Medicinal Plants in Native Ceremonial Acts is Recognized by Arizona Authorities

Following the unfortunate abuse of authority that occurred to Adam DeArmon, minister of Oklevueha Native Church in Yavapi County, Arizona, in February 2020, where he and other members of the church were mistreated and had confiscated ” illegally,” a 22-year preservation cultivation of Peyote, as well as other plants and natural healing products at his church headquarters, Adam DeArmon, also known as Adam “Yellow Bird,” initiated a national awareness journey for the understanding and good practices in the use of medicinal plants, specifically, in the case of Peyote and Cannabis, which are considered sacred plants by indigenous traditions.

Adam YellowBird was raised learning and working alongside indigenous elders for decades with the aim of helping thousands of people in their personal physical, mental and spiritual healing processes. While it is true that plants like Peyote and Cannabis can create hallucinogenic effects and be considered drugs, it is also true that these plants have great wisdom capable of healing people from severe conditions and helping them raise their level of consciousness, which is why they are considered sacred plants for indigenous communities since hundreds years ago and used in their ceremonial cults, a right that is constitutionally protected in the United States, and that recently, the Arizona authorities publicly and legally recognized by returning to Adam DeArmon and his church all the plants that were seized from him erroneously in 2020, in the same way as the charges filed against him were dropped.

This represents an unprecedented triumph, not only for Adam DeArmon but for the Native Nations of America who have been discriminated against and separated from their sacred customs for centuries due to lack of understanding and acceptance of their culture by local, state, national authorities and governments in the United States of America.

Adam was assigned the name of YellowBird many years ago which gave him the responsibility of working with government and people united, and that is exactly what he is doing now with this awareness journeys of wisdom in which he shares his story in different places about the sacred plants, how and when they should be taken, and in which cases they recommended or not, as part of his commitment to clarify this knowledge and help the people, the government and the tribal leaders of the world in a respectful way to achieve safeness, protection, legal support and awareness for a better quality of life of their communities and clear understandings with government authorities from a perspective of the Laws of Origin.

Adam DeArmon is Founding Minister of the Oklevueha Native American Church of the International Center of Spiritual and Ancestral Wisdom (ONAC and ICSAW). He has conducted international multicultural gatherings around the world. For more information about him or to support his cause go to www.adamdearmon.com
