TOTville’s latest expansion is in response to the growing recognition of SPD and its associated developmental issues. By offering a structured, multisensory environment, TOTville aims to help children with SPD build tolerance towards different sensory experiences and integrate better into everyday life.

According to a study published by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, 42% to 88% of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) suffer from SPD, which heavily impacts normal life routines. The study found that sensory integration interventions in children with ASD positively affected social responsiveness, sensory processing, functional motor skills, and social-emotional factors.

Children participating in the program at TOTville will engage in a variety of activities designed to promote healthy playtime and socializing while focusing on addressing SPD’s specific challenges. The program aims to increase independence, ease stress in social situations, and raise tolerance to new sensations. The program mainly focuses on aiding children suffering from SPD, but all children can benefit from the exercises.

TOTville’s sensory gym is designed to provide proprioceptive and vestibular sensory input. Some of the equipment includes linear and rotational swings, colorful climbing walls, and a jungle gym with horizontal and vertical ladders to cater to children’s sensory needs. TOTville’s occupational therapists are specialized in dealing with children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other delayed development disorders linked to SPD.
